Security
Folding Doors SteelCurtain® Specifications
A. Division
0 and Division 1, as indexed, apply to this section.
B. Furnish
and install all horizontal sliding, accordion-type SteelCurtain® door(s)
shown on the drawings and specified herein.
A. All headers,
support structures, surrounding insulation, jambs, storage pockets, pocket
doors, access doors, blocking and trim shall be furnished and installed
by other sections.
B. All
electrical wire, wiring, conduit and electrical boxes shall be furnished
and installed by electrical section.
C. All
track, soffit, chain guide and wall mounted striker posts shall be painted
by Section 09900. Color shall be selected by the architect.]
A. Installation
shall be accomplished by factory-trained personnel.
B. SteelCurtain®
doors with fire rating shall be listed by Underwriters Laboratories for
ratings as indicated, when tested in accordance with the requirements
of UL 10B and ASTM E-152.]
A. Refer to Section 01300 - Shop Drawings and Submittals.
B. Indicate required stacking depth, storage pocket width and height of
header above finished floor. Show installation details, layout, and electrical
requirements.
1.05 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver to the job site in manufacturer's original unopened package.
1.06 COORDINATION BY GENERAL CONTRACTOR
A. Coordinate the efforts of the various trades affected by the work of
this section. Assure accurate installation of header, jamb, and trim.
Provide field dimensions for fabrication. Supervise unloading and handling
of materials.
B. Permanent power shall be in-place and ready for final connection when
SteelCurtain® door(s) are erected. Assure access to and proper clearance
for motor operators.
C. After testing, the automatic-closing SteelCurtain® door(s) shall be
re-set to the original positions.
D. Store boxes flat (not more than three high) in dry area and protect
from elements that may damage materials. Replace damaged materials at
no cost to the owner.
1.07 WARRANTY
A. Materials and installation shall be warranted against defects in workmanship
for a period of one (1) year from the date of substantial completion.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 MANUFACTURER
A. Horizontal sliding accordion-type door(s) shall be SteelCurtain® model
as manufactured by Won-Door™ Corporation, Salt Lake City, Utah.
2.02 MATERIALS
A. Construction: shall consist of two parallel, accordion-type walls of
panels independently suspended with no pantographs or interconnections
except at the jamb and lead post.
B. Panels shall be formed of 24-gauge enamel coated steel V-grooved for
strength and resilience. Panels shall be connected by full height 24-gauge
enamel coated steel hinges.
C. Suspension System: shall consist of two 14-gauge cold rolled steel
tracks on 8" centers attached to the overhead structural support.
Each lead post shall be suspended by an 8-wheel ball bearing trolley.
Each panel shall be suspended by a steel hanger pin and a ball bearing
roller.
D. Lead-posts: shall be of 24-gauge cold rolled steel and shall be connected
by specially formed steel panels. An internally mounted stabilizer bar
shall keep lead-posts plumb and in proper alignment during operation and
insure a tight fitting closure.
E. Perimeter Seals: shall consist of continuous extruded vinyl sweeps
attached to the top and bottom of the fire door to form a smoke and draft
seal.
F. Hanging weight shall be 5.5 pounds per square foot.
G. Motorized Automatic Closing System shall consist of control box and
operator assembly. Closing system shall be activated by the building's
security alarm system [or fire/smoke detection equipment when fire rating
option is required.]
1. Electronic Control Box: Electronic control box shall house the microprocessor
logic board, 12or 24-volt maintenance-free battery, power supply charger,
and power supply board. All control box components shall be easily removed
for maintenance/replacement. DC power fuses shall be resettable PTC Type.
Batteries shall be continuously charged by the building's electrical service
and be automatically maintained at capacity. SteelCurtain® doors shall
be capable of manual operation in either the conventional or emergency
mode. The microprocessor shall be capable of initiating audible patterns
in the leading edge of the door and in the control box should any of the
following conditions arise:
a. Security violations
b. Fire alarm
c. High or low AC voltage, high or low DC voltage
d. Drive train malfunction, limit switch malfunction, key switch malfunction
e. ROM or RAM check-sum error, fuse errors
f. Missing battery, bad battery
Control Box shall:
a. Be capable of interfacing with building security components through
dry contact closure.
b. Be capable of automatically closing doors on loss of AC power with
a time delay of up to 4 minutes before closing upon loss of AC power
c. Be capable of being placed in a standby mode.
d. Be able to accept an expansion box used to house additional. batteries
or switching power supply to accommodate alternate power sources.
e. Be capable of being programmed for automatic closing once each day
for detection of closing path obstructions.
f. Be capable of supplying a form C dry contact for the purpose of monitoring:
a) door faults b) door position c) door alarm condition.
g. Contain a disconnect switch which interrupts the power going to the
motor for servicing. While disconnected, the control box shall periodically
sound an audible alarm signaling the power interrupt to the motor.
h. Control box shall sound a distinct audible alarm if the door is forced
open while locked. It shall also automatically close the door and engage
the clutch to re-secure the opening.
Motor Operator Assembly shall consist of a DC gear-motor, limit switch,
motor control relays, drive sprocket and clutch. The motor shall drive
the fire door by means of a chain attached to the stabilizer bar trolley.
Motor operator assembly shall be located within a one (1) hour fire rated
enclosure. Motor shall be operated by DC power supplied from 12 or 24-volt
maintenance-free battery packs located in the electronic control box.
H. Access Control. The door(s) shall be programmable such that when in
the access control mode the exit hardware shall not respond when pressed
until activated by signal from smoke detector or fire alarm. Door(s) shall
also include a steel sliding jamb and rigid jamb stops. An electromagnetic
locking brake shall be attached to the motor operator assembly to provide
400-500 pounds of resistance to manual opening.
I. Leading Edge Obstruction Detector: Door(s) shall be equipped with a
pressure sensitive leading edge such that each contact with an obstruction
shall cause the door(s) to stop and pause before attempting to re-close.
J. Key Switch/Alarm Module shall be provided to open/close/reset the door(s).
K. Exit Hardware: Exit hardware shall be located on both sides of each
door(s). In fire alarm mode a slight pressure on the hardware will cause
the door(s) to open a minimum of 36 inches, pause for 3 seconds, and then
automatically close. The hardware shall be field programmable to allow
automatic opening distances of up to the entire opening width.
OPTIONS
A. Fire Rating: SteelCurtain® doors shall be listed by Underwriters Laboratory
as special purpose fire doors having a [select one: 20, 60, 90,180] minute
fire-resistive rating in accordance with the requirements of UL 10B and
ASTM E-152.]
B. Expansion Box: The control box shall accept an expansion box used to
house additional batteries or switching power supply to accommodate alternate
power sources.]
C. Obstruction Detection: The door(s) shall be capable of being programmed
for automatic closing once each day for detection of closing path obstruction.
Door(s) shall sound an audible alarm on obstruction detection.]
D. Infrared Light Beam: An infrared light beam shall be supplied and mounted
to detect obstructions across the path of the door(s).]
E. Exit Hardware (one side only): Exit hardware shall be located on specified
side of each door opening].
ACCESS CONTROL and MONITORING UPGRADES
F. All Synchronized Locking System (ASL): System shall be capable of monitoring
and operating up to 256 doors, generate a diagnostic report, create a
security log, interface with other electronic monitoring systems and dial,
via modem, security personnel notifying them of security breaches. PC
Display by others.]
2.03 COLOR
Color shall be manufacturers standard #55 Platinum.

PART 3. EXECUTION
3.01 PREPARATION BY GENERAL CONTRACTOR
A. Openings shall be to the dimensions specified, plumb and level.
B. Headers shall be leveled with the finished floor within +/- 1/16"(.002)
tolerance over the entire length of the opening.
3.02 INSPECTION
A. Inspect openings prepared for SteelCurtain® doors and surrounding conditions.
Immediately notify the architect, in writing, of any unacceptable conditions.
3.03 INSTALLATION
A. Install SteelCurtain® doors in accordance with manufacturer's instructions
for clearance and fastenings.
B. Adjust for smooth, quiet operation. Verify that all operations are
functional and meet the requirements of applicable codes and regulations.
C. Upon completion of the installation, general contractor shall protect
SteelCurtain® doors from damage and shall replace or repair subsequent
damage so that doors are acceptable to the architect at no additional
cost to the owner.
